About The EEL

The Early Earth Lab (EEL) at UT San Antonio investigates the physical and chemical processes that shaped the early Solar System and Earth. We combine planetary materials analysis and theoretical modeling to study how planets formed and evolved.

Our research spans materials ranging from meteorites and other records of Solar System formation to ancient terrestrial rocks that preserve evidence of Earth’s early environments and biological evolution. We pair these laboratory-based analyses with theoretical approaches to understand how planetary systems form and host life.

By combining approaches across scales, from chemical signatures to planetary dynamics, we aim to understand how the conditions that produced planets ultimately shaped the emergence and development of life in the universe.
